Just as everybody receives influences, Cuban music has received influences from everyone.  Otherwise, fusion wouldn't exist.  Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba are three islands with the same roots.  Therefore, that music must be related. Nobody has taken it from anybody else. Each one works with his roots and produces music.  I believe that salsa & the Cuban son are Caribbean genres that belong to the Dominicans, the Puerto Ricans as well as the Cubans. I believe we are part of a formation that comes from the Spaniards and the Africans and some Indian. That is the source of a music that represents us. We cannot divide it into two or three parts."
